Meet Ryan Jolly
As a mother of 4 children with special needs, I know the journey of understanding a child with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and other neurodiversities, both personally and professionally, and my job is to help you figure out how to accommodate what they are born with. We accept you and your family as they come - your dysregulated child is welcome in our space.
WHAT DO WE TREAT?
Here at Brain First Family Center we meet you and your kiddo right where you are in your treatment journey. Whether you are looking to be evaluated for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, looking for treatment as a caregiver to a Medically Complex Family, or simply looking for psychiatric care for your anxiety and depression. We are here to help and have no trouble with your dysregulation.
Evaluation and ongoing care available
Both medication and therapeutic support is available to you here at Brain First Family Center. We understand that your self-care looks a lot different - you won't hear us telling you to take a vacation.
There is a shortage of psychiatric providers in Kansas City and we understand that it is hard to find care. We are happy to help manage your medications for anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorders, etc.
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is an umbrella term for disorders incurred through exposure to alcohol in the womb and can result in lifelong disability. For many families the journey to a FASD evaluation can be a long, frustrating and disheartening struggle littered with misdiagnosis, inappropriate therapy recommendations, rejection after rejection and a ton of unsolicited parenting advice. That journey can leave families feeling exhausted and defeated. At Brain First Family Center we understand the FASD struggle and offer FASD evaluation for individuals of all ages and FASD informed mental healthcare services for the whole family.
Two of Ryan’s children are considered medically complex and part of caring for them and keeping them alive means prioritizing their care over everything else. That can involve things like, staying home during cold and flu season or limiting visitors to the home to avoid infection where possible, dropping everything for yet another ER visit or hospital stay and missing out on many of the activities everyone else takes for granted. The level of care they require comes at a cost to all members of the family. The need to be constantly "on call" to attend to the next medical crisis translates to constantly living in "fight or flight' mode. Caring for a medically complex individual effects a person's relationships with spouses, children, parents, siblings, friends and collogues. And, it effects your relationship with yourself. At Brain First Family Center we understand that caregivers lead slightly different lives and they deserve mental healthcare service that understands that slightly different life.
There's nothing routine about routine medication management and therapy. You deserve a mental healthcare provider that will take the time to focus on your unique needs. Ryan Jolly is a Board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC). As a nurse Ryan was trained to treat the whole person not just the current issue and she brings that nursing focus to her work as a PMHNP-BC. At Brain First Family Center we take the time to get to know what you envision for your life, what issues you may face and together we work to find the tools that help you get to the life you want.
